Critic on the Cheap – Colin Does Movies
I decided, quite recently (this morning!), to launch a new series of articles here at ccwatt.net – movie reviews! In fact, I am working on a review right now, and already had much of the following information embedded in it. That was really getting a bit awkward, though, and was making that piece quite a bit longer than it should be, even by my standards. So I then decided, even more recently (this afternoon!), to break out this introduction to the concept and the series, and post it separately, before posting any actual reviews. And, here we are. Random Tracks – Sara Melson
It has been quite some time since I wrote anything at all about music here, let alone any actual reviews, or even a little “random tracks” artist blurb. I think it’s time to remedy that. (It’s either that or go job hunting and, well, you can guess how that’s going to play out.) Since she came up in the random mix yesterday afternoon, and since I then proceeded to listen to everything that I have of hers – twice – the most obvious candidate is Sara Melson.
Before I get to Sara Melson‘s music, I’d like to first share the story of how I discovered her in the first place. You see, if there is any single aspect of the various operations here that repeatedly and reliably pleases me, it would be the discovery process, which I now intend to share with you – whether you dig it or not.
I first encountered Sara Melson’s music by its use in a movie soundtrack. Continue reading ‘Random Tracks – Sara Melson’ »
ABQ Stride – A Year in Review and Remiss
I went downtown yesterday and purchased my third consecutive, six-month ABQ Ride gold badge. Unless you’re me (and I rather doubt that you are), there’s nothing particularly exciting or noteworthy about that. It’s a milestone for me, though, because it means that I’ve been riding the bus for almost exactly one year now. I’ve been car-less (possibly even careless) for most of that time, haven’t regretted it but once or twice, and then only briefly. I’ve decided to commemorate this momentous (if you’re me, and I think we’ve established that you’re probably not) occasion in a couple of ways.
First, I’ve put a new image gallery online, one containing pictures taken in and around Albuquerque’s downtown and Old Town areas. Most of the pictures there were taken earlier this year, though the cover shot of the Alvarado Transportation Center (ATC) was taken yesterday, with my cell phone, specifically for the occasion.
Second, I’ve decided to write, at long last, about a topic that has been of critical importance to me for just about a year now: you guessed it, that topic is getting around Albuquerque by bus. Continue reading ‘ABQ Stride – A Year in Review and Remiss’ »
New Site Feature – Image Gallery
I’ve installed a new feature here at ccwatt.net – a new subdomain for images, and an image gallery package. This is something that I’ve attempted before, several times, without success. It turns out that there are some magic, all but secret, things that must be done at the server to enable certain features. The new subdomain is images.ccwatt.net. The gallery is powered by a free PHP and MySQL package.
So far, there is only one main “album” there, containing only pictures that I have taken myself, mostly within the last year or so. My photography albums currently contain pictures taken in Albuquerque’s North Valley area – at the river and bosque, and along the ditches – as well as in the Jemez, Sandia and Monzano Mountains, and at the highly photogenic Abo mission. I will soon be adding pictures from elsewhere around Albuquerque, and Santa Fe. Continue reading ‘New Site Feature – Image Gallery’ »
